True gender equality is actually perceived as inequality. A group that is made up of 50% women is perceived as being mostly women. A situation that is perfectly equal between men and women is perceived as being biased in favor of women.
And if you don’t believe me, you’ve never been a married woman who kept her family name. I have had students hold that up as proof of my “sexism.”
My own brother told me that he could never marry a woman who kept her name because “everyone would know who ruled that relationship.” Perfect equality – my husband keeps his name and I keep mine – is held as a statement of superiority on my part.

Also the study where they had women and men talking in a discussion and when women spoke around 30% of the time, men perceived them as dominating the discussion. They didn’t consider it “equal” until something like 5-10% of women talking. (via dumbthingswhitepplsay)

Voila. A beautiful example of why fighting for equality becomes a gross exaggeration in the eyes of the oppressors. (via curiouslycool)

The important thing is moral choice. Evil has to exist along with good, in order that moral choice may operate. Life is sustained by the grinding opposition of moral entities. Anthony Burgess, A Clockwork Orange (via fuckyeahexistentialism)

bird & hand

poemfull:

listen:   you are an eyesore   glitzy
as a billboard   my bluelight
special baby  my-shiny-in-the-rain
but the heart is a homey summer

slippy as a raw egg on my plate
crumped   open like a torso   my
bloody clementine    pitched
on the tarmac   under the jizz of stars

and the street’s gone vacant    vagrant
the lawn unmown   the lawn
a little forest a little savagery
like the one between us darling

a bird trapped in the house
banging   and banging   and when I
opened my fist to the blueblack
it was already gone

There was a beautiful scene that we shot where [Thomas] met a unicorn, in an enchanted wood. And it was a magical moment, ‘cause they’re magical creatures right? And they cut it.  -Rob James-Collier

Downton star impresses in West End
In the audience to support the actress were her Downton co-stars Joanne Froggatt, Amy Nuttall and Phyllis Logan, who play housemaid Anna, disgraced maid Ethel and housekeeper Mrs Hughes.
Also in the audience were Luther star Idris Elba and Anna’s partner Rhys Ifans, who made V for victory signs to her during the curtain call.
Phyllis said of the show: “I loved it. Laura was great. She must have thought she was being heckled but she just kept on going. She did so well.”
Amy said: “She was amazing. But we think she was miscast because she kept saying ‘I’m so plain’ and she’s so beautiful.”
Joanne agreed and added: “We loved our girl.”
